After some of our board members visited the Pineland Farms recreation area in New Gloucester last summer, we decided to create our own Orienteering Program at the FKOC! Orienteering involves navigating to marked locations (“control points”) around the venue using just a paper map. We currently have ~20 points marked and mapped and we plan to expand later in the year. Orienteering is another fun way to enjoy the outdoors and to learn/improve your observation and map-reading skills. It is a great team-building activity and can be done competitively if desired.
We plan to kick off our program with an introductory event in mid-July. Stay tuned for more info! We are grateful to Professor Dave Hobbins from UMFK for building our database of control points and creating the base map. Thank you Dave!!
